Drill 1 of 5
Jab and Pivot Drill
Teach the fighter to score and angle out instead of backing up.
How to practice
- Start in your stance. Partner throws slow forward combos while walking you down.
- Jab to the chest as they step in, then pivot 45 degrees off your lead foot as your cross lands or whiffs.
- Reset at the new angle and repeat - jab, pivot, face them again before they square up.
- Alternate pivot sides: left off the lead foot, then right behind the rear foot, 10 reps each.
- Partner increases pressure gradually; your only scoring shots are the jab and one punch after each pivot.
