Primary tactics

Distance Management

Stay at striking range or fully out, not halfway.

Why it matters: Wrestlers attack lazy mid-range.

Sprawl Readiness

Keep hips ready and stance balanced.

Why it matters: Overcommitted strikes invite takedowns.

Underhooks

Fight for underhooks immediately when clinched.

Why it matters: Underhooks help stop takedowns and escape cage control.

Circle Off Cage

Move laterally before your back touches the cage.

Why it matters: Cage control is where grinders win.

Get-Up Priority

Stand up before hunting risky submissions.

Why it matters: Bottom position can lose rounds.

Best weapons

Jab

When: Use to keep distance without overcommitting.

Why it works: It scores while keeping hips available.

Short Cross

When: Use when they step in without level changing.

Why it works: It punishes entries without overcommitting.

Uppercut

When: Use only on poor telegraphed level changes.

Why it works: It intercepts bad shots.

Sprawl

When: Use when they shoot.

Why it works: It denies hips and stops takedown momentum.

Underhook

When: Use when clinched or against cage.

Why it works: It turns defense into escape/control.

Sparring constraints

  • Partner shoots after striking entries
  • Fighter cannot throw naked kicks
  • Fighter must circle before touching cage
  • Fighter must fight for underhooks
  • Fighter must get up after every takedown
  • Reset to center after successful escape
