Catch the Teep, Counter

Convert their teep into your best scoring chance by catching it and striking while they stand on one leg.

How to practice

  1. Partner throws the same teep repeatedly until you can catch it cleanly at full extension.
  2. Catch with your forearm and glove, pinning the foot to your ribs without leaning your head forward.
  3. Hold them hopping for one beat, then fire your cross straight down the middle.
  4. Progress to catch-and-sweep: scoop the leg up, step in, and kick their standing leg as you dump them.
  5. Add the push-off counter: catch, push the leg up and back so they retreat off balance, then chase with a 1-2.
  6. Finish live: partner teeps at random times during sparring sequences, and you score only on catch-and-counters.

Coaching cues

Catch at full extension, reach never crosses your own centerStep forward as you hold the leg so they cannot skip awayCounter first, play with the leg secondSweep only when the catch is clean - a sloppy catch feeds their knee

Common mistakes

  • Catching too early, before the kick commits
  • Holding the leg without doing anything, eating punches while they hop
  • Getting predictable - catching every teep until they knee instead
