Parry the Teep, Angle Counter
Deflect the teep off line and step to a new angle so your counter lands before they can re-balance.
How to practice
- Partner throws teeps from range. Parry each one across your body with your lead hand, turning your shoulder with it.
- As the teep spins them or pulls them off line, step 45 degrees to your lead side and land a cross.
- Drill the parry-counter combination 15 times on each side at slow speed.
- Add the follow-up: after the cross, hook or kick their lead leg as they try to square back up.
- Partner mixes teeps and feints so the parry must be earned by a real read, not a guess.
- Finish with one round of sparring where you may only score off parried teeps.
Coaching cues
Parry across, not down - downward parries eat the head kickLet the parry spin them; your angle does the restCounter off the parry footwork, not from a standstillRe-engage twice after a good parry - they are still recovering
Common mistakes
- Parrying with too much arm and winding up exposed
- Parrying and watching instead of countering in the same motion
- Angling into their power side without covering with the free hand
