Step Off the Line and Enter

Break the teep's line of fire by removing your body from the center before you step in to score.

How to practice

  1. Partner holds pads and teeps lightly as you stand at kicking range.
  2. Step 45 degrees off line as the teep comes, letting it extend into empty space.
  3. From the new angle, step in with a jab-cross before their foot returns to the floor.
  4. Drill the sequence 20 times: step off, enter, combination, exit.
  5. Alternate angles: sometimes step outside the lead foot, sometimes inside, based on their hip turn.
  6. Finish with one round where the partner teeps at unpredictable times and you score only on angled entries.

Coaching cues

Common mistakes

  • Stepping in straight and eating the teep your angle was meant to dodge
  • Stepping off without entering, wasting the defensive movement
  • Always angling the same direction until they time the teep to the angle
